In this article, I tried my best to provide all details required to apply for a Canada PR. If you don’t know even a single detail about Canada PR process, this article will give a fair idea about entire process, documents required and time lines. There are a lot of steps involved in applying for a Canada PR.
Check eligibility -> Create Express Entry Profile -> Receive Invitation to Apply (ITA) -> Submit PR application -> Receive Passport request (PPR) -> Land in Canada -> Collect PR Card.
It is not going to be a smooth ride. Process involves preparing for a language test, collecting documents, sending couriers, creating online profiles, waiting for updates, etc. Also, total cost will come around 1 lakh rupees (around $1500). I am not trying to intimidate you by giving all above details. I am just mentally preparing you to the effort, time and patience required for this process. And of course, we are going to cross each step one by one.
Check eligibility:
First you need to check if you are eligible to apply for Canada PR. Check eligibility This is the website that provides the “Minimum requirements” to apply. However, there are some hard restrictions based on your skill and experience. The check eligibility section will help you decide whether you need to ahead or not.
The Federal Skilled Worker (Express Entry) program is one of three federal programs managed through Express Entry. Express Entry candidates are scored using the Comprehensive Ranking System. If you score 67 points or higher (out of 100), you may qualify to immigrate to Canada as a federal skilled worker.

- Language Skill : To find all the details about Language Skill click here. If you opt for IELTS exam, you have to choose General Training option. (Note: IELTS exam is 2 types. General Trainings and Academic). To apply for Express Entry, you must take the General Training option. To check eligibility you don’t have to give actual IELTS exam. - Education : To find all the details about education click here. Unless you completed you masters/bachelors in Canada, you have to get this done. An Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) is used to verify that your foreign degree, diploma, certificate (or other proof of your credential) is valid and equal to a Canadian one. You can get it done with WES Canada. To check eligibility you don’t have to get actual ECA, just estimate your equivalency. Maximum 25 points.
- Experience : You need 1st find out if your job belongs National Occupational Classification (NOC) Skill Type 0, A or B. To find out your Skill type Click here . At the end of this page you can filter your job profile and find your NOC. You need have at least 1 year full time experience. Also, if your skill type doesn’t belong to Skill Type 0, A or B, you are not eligible to apply under this program. Maximum 15 points

- Age: You’ll get points based on your age on the day when you apply. Click here to find out how many points you get for your age. Maximum 12 points.
- Arranged Employment in Canada: You can get points if you have a, full-time job offer of at least one year from a Canadian employer. You must get the job offer before you apply to come to Canada as a federal skilled worker. It is almost impossible to get a job in Canada while residing in India unless your current organisation is ready to relocate you to Canada. - Adaptability: You will be awarded points if you have studied in Canada or worked in Canada in the past. Also, there many spouse factors which might get you more points. If you have siblings or blood relatives who are citizens or PR holders in Canada it will help you to increase your score. To know more details click here. Maximum 10 points.
These 6 factors explained above will determine if you are eligible to apply for Canada PR through Federal Skilled immigrant (Express Entry) process. Note: This is not your final eligibility, this is only to verify if you are eligible to Apply. Summing all the points you got based on above factors should be 67 or more. Please read the links provided for each factor carefully. To give mock IELTS test and evaluate all these points, it will hardly take a day or two. If you complete this step, you will have a fair idea by now to proceed or not to. If you decided to go ahead, next step would be creating express entry profile.
